The single storey extension takes the form of a simple cube with a faceted roof which incorporates a large rooflight. This gives the appearance of a jewel like structure, elevated on piles. Consideration has been given to avoid obscuring the view from the first-floor windows with the new extension roof. The rooflight takes advantage of views up to the tree canopies and will gain as much light into the kitchen and living space as possible. A large picture window connects the currently closed off kitchen and living room with the garden, valley and trees. The glazed elements will increase the connection with the outdoors. The cube has been separated from the main dwelling by a glazed link which includes opening rooflights which will provide kitchen ventilation and natural light, to a currently dark room. The separation and material selection enhances the contrast between existing and proposed and sets the extension apart as a high quality addition.
