Bayview
Occupying a steeply-sloping site in central Swansea the wooded site falls 12-15 metres from North to South, and the house is organised on 4 levels around a spiral staircase topped with a glass oculus. A double height living area on the upper levels has a library mezzanine; balconies bring outdoors into the house, and a large mono-pitch roof collects water and provides shade on the south side. Accessed by a bridge from the upper level through a planted Beech wood, the site has a built-in series of waterfalls, cascades and pools.
With solar heating, two wood stoves with back boilers, photovoltaic roof panels and a micro wind turbine the house will be close to self-sustaining.
