ROBIN CAMPBELL

Robin Campbell is an architect and artist, who initiated the first “percent for Art”  scheme in Wales for Swansea City Council, in the 1990’s.  He established Air Architecture in 1998. Air has won several building commissions and competitions, including the low energy Lammas community hub in Glandwr, Pembrokeshire and Environment Centre in Swansea.  Robin has prepared public art and landscape strategies for Baglan Energy Park and a town centre regeneration project in Maesteg.

Robin has won the Civic Trust Award and has been and short-listed for the Architect’s Journal Small Project Award.

Robin has collaborated with artists on several of his projects, including Roger Moss (Swansea Environment Centre), Robert Conybear (Mission Gallery, Swansea), David Pearl (farm rationalisation, Ilston),  Peter Freeman (Persimmon development), Rob Ollins (Persimmon Development) and John Gingell (Baglan Energy Park). 

Air Architecture has exhibited in “Making Buildings” (Crafts Council, London; New Art Gallery Walsall, Middlesbrough Museums and Galleries, Turnpike Gallery Manchester and Aberystwyth Arts Centre) 

 His work has been published in “The Furnished Landscape” (Bellew Publishing for The Crafts Council), FX Magazine, Architect’s Journal, Art Review, Design Week, Designers Journal and The Public Art Report.

Robin was presented with a Silver Green Apple Award by Doreen Lawrence in June 2013 for his Anstruther project, which has also been short-listed for the Leaf International Interior Awards (Best Use of Space).

 

HELEN FLYNN

Helen studied for a BA in Architecture at the University of Manchester. Following this she completed a MA course in Glass from Swansea Metropolitan University, graduating with a distinction. During this time, Helen worked at Air Architecture gaining experience in residential and community design. Helen returned to Manchester to complete her Masters in Architecture, where she worked on a number of community based projects. After graduating with a Merit, Helen worked in London before returning to her home town of Swansea to work at Air Architecture.

Helen completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Practice from the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University in June 2022 and has graduated with a distinction. Helen was awarded The Stanley Cox prize, given by Stride Treglown, for best overall performance in the DPP.

Alongside her work in practice, Helen produces papercut art pieces and commissions and has had her work displayed at the Ruthin Craft Centre, Found Gallery in Brecon. and in Craft in the Bay in Cardiff. She was commissioned to create work for Iaith ar Daith on S4C in 2020. As well as her work in practice, Helen is a design tutor for 1st and 2nd year BSc Architecture students at the UWSTD.
